A fast checkout for busy periods
Tap favourites, search by name or scan. Record cash, card or transfer and move to the next customer.
A small grocery turns over quickly. Staples sell every day, the order has to go in on time and the clipboard by the till never quite matches the shelf. Shopkeepa is built to give you a fast checkout, a live count and a restock list you can order from.
You write the order from memory and still run out of the basics.
The clipboard, the till and the shelf each tell a different story.
Busy periods mean long queues, and every sale you write down slows things further.
You are not sure which products pay their way once everything is added up.
Tap favourites, search by name or scan. Record cash, card or transfer and move to the next customer.
Every sale reduces stock, so you can see what is left without a walk round the shelves.
See which products sell most over a week or a month, so your order follows your customers.
Set a minimum on each product. When stock crosses it, you get one reminder and the item joins the list with a suggested order quantity.
See each day's sales split by payment type and compare with the cash in the drawer.
Staples like rice, flour, oil, bread and drinks sell every single day. Customers notice immediately when one is missing, and they tend to do the rest of their shopping where they can find it all. For a grocer, one empty shelf can cost more than the product itself.
Margins on food are often small, so mistakes matter. Over-ordering ties up cash, and under-ordering loses sales. The goal is to buy close to what you will sell, and that means knowing what you sold.
At peak times, such as after work or on a Saturday morning, every second at the till counts. Shopkeepa keeps the sale screen simple. Pin the products that sell all day as favourites, search for the rest by name, or scan the barcode on the pack.
Each sale takes the items off your stock count straight away, and the payment is recorded as cash, card, bank transfer or other. Shopkeepa records the payment but does not process it, so you keep using the card machine or bank app you have now.
Most grocers place orders on a rhythm, weekly or twice a week, and the order is only as good as the picture in your head on that day. Shopkeepa gives you something firmer to work from.
Pick the number you do not want to fall below before the next delivery. Fast sellers need a higher one than slow sellers.
When a sale takes a product to its minimum, you get one reminder and the product goes on the restock list with a suggested order quantity.
On order day, open the list instead of walking the shelves with a pen.
When it arrives, record what you received and the counts go back up.
The best sellers report ranks products by what you have actually sold. For a grocery, that tells you which lines deserve the most careful watching and the best shelf spots.
| Product | Sold last 7 days | In stock | Minimum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Long grain rice, 2 kg | 46 | 12 | 20 |
| Cooking oil, 1 litre | 31 | 18 | 15 |
| Tinned tomatoes | 9 | 30 | 8 |
Food shops lose stock to damage and spoilage. When that happens, remove the items from stock and choose a reason such as damaged or expired. The count drops, and the loss is recorded rather than quietly disappearing into a mismatch.
To be clear about what this is, Shopkeepa does not track expiry dates on your products or warn you when something is nearly out of date. Removing stock with a reason is a way to keep the count honest, and over time it shows you how much you are losing. For ideas on reducing it, see where your stock goes: cutting loss, damage and theft.
Sales totals tell you how busy you were, not how well you did. If you enter what each product costs, Shopkeepa shows gross profit, which is what you sold minus what the stock cost you. It helps you see which products carry the shop and which only look busy.
Staff can run the till without seeing any of it. Cashiers can sell but cannot see costs, profit or settings. For the basics of the method, read gross profit for shop owners.
