Choose Lightspeed if…
Pick Lightspeed if you run a larger or growing retail business with several registers or locations, want deep reporting, purchase orders, an API and 24/7 support, and have the budget for it.
Lightspeed Retail is a full retail platform for independent shops and growing chains. It is powerful, and it is priced and built for businesses much bigger than a single mini-mart. Shopkeepa is a pre-launch app for the small Caribbean shop, so this page is about whether you need that much system.

Pick Shopkeepa when it launches if you run one small shop, want to sell, track stock and see simple reports on a phone or tablet, and do not want to pay for or learn features built for chains.

Lightspeed's pricing page lists three Retail (X-Series) plans at US$89, US$149 and US$289 per month, each with one register included and extra locations and registers charged on top. Its feature list includes forecasting, order recommendations, custom reporting, workflows, SSO and API access. Lightspeed also advertises a wholesale network and a catalogue of over 5 million products to speed up product creation.
That is a lot of capability, and a single mini-mart will use little of it. At US$89 per month before hardware, payment fees and setup, even the Basic plan is a real commitment for a one-counter shop. Shopkeepa has no price yet, but it is designed to be the whole product for a small shop, not a base that you build up with plan upgrades.
Lightspeed's help pages say its offline card payments work with the Smart Terminal (WisePOS E) in the UK and Europe, Canada, the US and Australia. Its mobile scanner payments are noted for the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Ireland and the Netherlands. Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana are not in those lists, so a shop here would use a third-party card processor.
Lightspeed's offline guide says offline mode is a backup option, not a complete solution for offline selling. You can only use the Sell and Status pages, take cash sales, add customers and create products, and you cannot view inventory information. The register must have been synced and logged in before the connection dropped. For a shop with regular power or signal loss, read that page closely. Shopkeepa is built with unreliable connections in mind, and we will describe its behaviour precisely before launch.
Export your product list from Lightspeed to a spreadsheet and trim it to name, price, quantity and, where you have them, cost, category and barcode. Import it into Shopkeepa using CSV or Excel import with its preview step, which flags duplicates before saving. Variants become separate products. Run a rapid stock count, and run both systems in parallel for a few days before you cancel Lightspeed.
Lightspeed's Retail (X-Series) page lists Basic at US$89, Core at US$149 and Plus at US$289 per month, with extra locations and registers charged separately. Payment fees and hardware are additional.
Lightspeed says businesses in over 100 countries use it, but its documented payment and offline-card regions do not include Jamaica. Ask Lightspeed sales to confirm what is available in your country.
Retail POS has a backup offline mode for limited actions such as cash sales. Lightspeed says it is not a complete solution for offline selling.
For a single-counter shop that does not need multiple registers, forecasting or an API, much of it goes unused. A simpler tool may suit you better.
